Wedding Budget - Where To Begin.

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Wedding budgeting is one of the most daunting tasks for couples planning their wedding. But it doesn't have to be, once you know how to best approach it. Jen from Bridal Party Boutique offers her expert guidance for couples.

Firstly when planning your wedding budget you need to start by establishing your priorities.

But how do you do that?

I recommend you sit down with your partner & create a list of items that are really important to you both.

Separate each item between ‘needs’ & ‘wants’. Put them in order of your agreed priority.

For example, a ‘need’ would for you to have is a celebrant. A ‘want’ would be to hire a photo booth as part of your entertainment.

By not organising your priorities, you do run the risk of getting carried away & spending money that you have not budgeted for, on stuff that you may not need.

Next, it is helpful to assign a realistic cost to each item on your prioritised list. To determine the average cost of each item, do an online search for suppliers in your region. Once you have budgeted your needs you can then start to assess the affordability of your ‘wants’ by order of priority. It’s important to search for suppliers in your required area because prices can vary by location.

I always advise the couples I coach that a wedding should not put them in debt.

Remember, your guests won’t notice how much you spent on flowers or how much your wedding shoes cost, but they will remember how your day made them feel.

It’s never too late to start looking at your budget and your priorities.

Remember, your end goal is to be married, once you are, nothing else will matter.
